Absolutely!

OMAX and Autodesk have worked together to ensure great compatibility between Fusion 360 and the ProtoMAX software. You can see a video of it in action on one of OMAX's larger machines on YouTube here.

Fusion 360 can output DXF files that are compatible with LAYOUT (the CAD system that comes with ProtoMAX), but can also output .OMX tool path files that can be directly sent to the machine and run in the controller (MAKE), skipping the need to use LAYOUT completely.

To find Post Processors for Fusion 360, visit this web page: Autodesk Fusion 360 Post Processor Page, and enter in the search term "OMAX", or "ProtoMAX". Note that there may be more than one post processor, choose the ProtoMAX one, if it is available, or the one that most closely matches whatever machine you have.

Here is another nice video of someone using Fusion 360 to program their ProtoMAX from a sketch to a part, previewing, then cutting:

Any plans to update the protomax post processor to support etching? I tried using the omax post and it seems to work fine. Any issues using it for everything?

YES! The current version of Intelli-MAX Proto does support basic etching. Download this version by going to www.protomax.com, select Menu then Software and scroll to the bottom of the page. Etching can be selected when choosing a cut quality. In the software help screen, search for "etching" and read the information on how to optimize for your application. Keep us posted and feel free to send us a note at support@protomax.com.

I meant the fusion 360 post processor from https://cam.autodesk.com/hsmposts I'm currently using the OMAX Waterjet post instead of the ProtoMAX Waterjet since it supports etching, are there any major differences between the 2?

Hello, software engineering advises that the Fusion 360 post-processor for OMAX was actually created by the Autodesk folks who work on Fusion 360. There are currently no plans to link the etching capabilities. Let us know how we can help with your specific application within ProtoMAX Layout (CAD) program.

Realized that the .cps files were plain text, so I went through the code. Looks like the only differences between the OMAX WaterJet and ProtoMax Waterjet posts are etching support, and an additional warning for part size to fit the Protomax. Otherwise the 2 are the same, and the OMAX Waterjet post is 100% compatible with the Protomax.
