What is the smallest diameter the jet stream can cut? How small of a radius?

The Quick Answer:

The nozzle produces a cut of about 0.030" (0.75 mm) in diameter, or about 0.15" (0.38 mm) radius.

Additional Discussion:

The diameter of the "mixing tube" portion of the ProtoMAX nozzle is about 0.030" (approximately 0.75 mm). This means that the narrowest slot one can cut is about this amount, and the sharpest inside corner radius would be about 1/2 this amount, or about 0.015" (0.38 mm).

With a brand new mixing tube, the actual diameter of the cut may be very slightly smaller, perhaps 0.028" (0.71 mm) due to various factors such as tolerances and jet behaviors within the nozzle.

As the nozzle wears, it will expand in diameter slightly over time, growing larger than the 0.030" design specification. The advanced user can easily adjust the "tool offset" in the software to compensate for this, should one desire to maintain maximum precision.

Tip: The diameter of the cut is often referred to as the "kerf width" or "kerf" of the jet.
